World War II is over! But the intrigue that marked wartime espionage on both sides is not!
A mysterious woman in a red evening gown attends the Blue Heron, a Washington D.C. nightclub with a stone-faced man. Inexplicably, she draws a weapon and shoots the band's trumpet player while he is on stage playing -- then runs to the body, appearing to check for a pulse, then disappears into the night, disappearing along with her escort.
Present Day
Three murders in quick succession occur, and all three victims are relatives of North Bay Times ace reporter Rod Pitcher. The third victim, who turns up, bloodied and barely alive on Pitcher's front porch, and slips him a bandless watch -- which he learns later is a tool of WW-II era spies -- and is the key to three killings and three attempts on his life.
Pitcher, and his boss, Peter McDermott, with the help of Times publisher Charlie Hume and anachronistic detective Sy Casio stalk the cold trail of a 60 year old murder -- and they have to do it before they become present-day victims!
