Dry Terror
Dry Terror
The First Installment of the Peter McDermott Adventure Series
It's the thing we need the most but think about the least
A group of female-led terrorists use the good offices of a corrupt U.S. Senator to change the law to mandate privatization of all municipal water systems in the United States. Once President Thomas Howe Addison signs the bill, the women begin a campaign to bring the last global superpower to its knees. Using oil money from a tiny Mideastern country, they buy each of the water systems in the country, making some of the purchases with murder and intimidation. With no explanation, the women order the water rates increased alarmingly, despite protests from each state's Utility Regulatory Commissions. When their early demands are not met, the terrorists simply close the tap. Instantly, the United States of America is dry.
Enter Peter McDermott
As each water system falls to the terrorists and their dollars, alarm bells ring in the back of Peter McDermott's head. The editor of Baltimore's North Bay Times begins digging into Endour, a multi-national corporation with deep pockets, and eventual control of every drop of municipal water in the United States. Aided and abetted by reporter Rod Pitcher, and intimidated to the breaking point by publisher and boss Charlie Hume, McDermott tracks the money to the terrorists and their motive. Assisted by private detective Sy Casio, McDermott stings the terrorists and their organization to a to-the-death showdown in the lobby of a long-abandoned Washington D.C. hotel. The story culminates to a screaming climax with an interesting twist.
